Day 1-2

Jeju Island

Sunrise over rocky pier in Jeju Island
Highlights:

Spend the day with a local guide exploring Jeju’s natural wonders, including Cheonjiyeon waterfall, and the basalt stacks of Jusangjeolli

Take in the seascape views from the stunning crater of Sunrise Peak

If you're lucky, catch sight of the haenyo, Korea’s free-diving “sea women”

Day one's all about picking up your rental car and checking into your hotel – but day two is when your island exploration will begin in earnest, with a private guided tour of the island’s amazing natural wonders. Yongduam, or “Dragon’s Head Rock”, forms a morning appetiser in Jeju City, though far more spectacular is the “Sunrise Peak” near Samseong. It’s like a steep-walled castle built by nature alone, and the sea and crater views from the top (yep, there’s a volcanic crater up here!) are breath-taking. Then, it’s down to the south coast to relax by a parkside waterfall, see a seaside clutch of honeycomb-like basalt pillars, and hike the dramatic cliffside pathway of the Yongmeori Coast.

Transport

Jeju is around an hour’s flight from Seoul. You’ll pick up a rental car at the airport, from which it’s rarely much more than an hour’s drive to anywhere on the island. Jeju's roads are all well connected, and typically do not see much in the way of heavy traffic.

Day 3-4

Jeju Island

Couple walking over suspension bridge above trees
Highlights:

Try the regional speciality – a barbecue of Jeju’s famous “black-pig” pork

Hike Hallasan, an extinct volcano, to the highest point in the country

Relax on one of Jeju’s many secluded beaches

The rest of your Jeju island stay will be at leisure. We’ll be happy to give you some suggestions of where to venture to in your rental car – and with a walking trail going right around the island, and a volcano to climb in the middle of it, you may want to take your hiking shoes along, too. Alternatively, if you’ve been firing around the sights on the mainland, you might want to head to one of the many beaches to kick back and gaze at the seas in front of you, and the mountains behind. A perfect way to round off your holiday to South Korea.

Is this trip for you?

What's great

  • Explore the unique culture of Jeju Island, South Korea's favourite holiday destination
  • With your own rental car, you can explore all the island has to offer – from extensive volcano hiking trails to beautiful beaches
  • There's plenty of relaxation time built in to the itinerary, so you're free to soak up the sun by the pool or relax at the beach
  • At only 4 days, this extension would make the perfect complement to a longer trip around Korea or one of its neighbouring countries

Things to consider

  • This itinerary is intended as a relaxing extension to a larger holiday, meaning there is no guiding included; however, we're happy to tailor your trip by adding in excursions
  • Jeju Island is very seasonal; peak season is popular (for good reason!) so busier than usual, and whilst low season is the perfect climate for hiking, some activities are likely to be closed.
  • The beaches here aren't like the exotic white, sandy beaches that can be found in Southeast Asia, but they're still perfect for some rest and relaxation
