Day 1-5

Hoi An

Hoi An waterfront
Highlights:

Arrive and relax! Spend time enjoying your lovely seaside resort and relaxing on Hoi An’s sandy beach

Learn how to cast a fishing net from a traditional basket boat

Take a lesson in Vietnamese cooking and enjoy the fruits of your labour for lunch

Hoi An is best known for its beautifully preserved World Heritage centre, but you’ll soon discover that’s just one of its charms! After you’ve relaxed on its long and sandy beach, get to know the rural fringes on two different but complimentary countryside tours. Cycle through villages lined with water palms and coconut trees, learn to cast a fishing net from a basket boat, and enjoy a seafood lunch on the boat ride back to town. Then, spend a morning at an organic farm, learning to whip up some Vietnamese home-cooked delights. Your afternoons will be free to go street-food snacking and trinket-shopping on Hoi An’s lantern-strung riverfront, one of the prettiest settings in Vietnam.

Transport

Day 1:
Car transfer from Danang airport to Hoi An (45 minutes)

Day 6-7

Ho Chi Minh City

Person in Cu Chi Tunnels
Highlights:

Take a speedboat to Cu Chi and crawl through tunnels made by guerrilla fighters during the “American War”

Solve puzzles as you explore Ben Thanh Market, the go-to option for locals for over a century.

Design and decorate your own nón lá (conical hat) as a quintessential souvenir.

Ho Chi Minh City is the best place in the country to learn about the effects of the “American War”, but museum displays and walking tours aren’t always suitable for children. Instead, we’ve included a fun and educational day out to Cu Chi, part of a network of supply tunnels built by guerilla fighters. After you’ve squeezed through the tunnels and seen some of their inventive booby traps, you’ll travel back to the city by speedboat. Next it's time to test your skills with a treasure hunt-style quest through Ben Thanh Market, tracking down colourful tropical fruits and solving puzzles. Finish up your time in the city with a workshop painting your own nón lá (conical hat) to take home.

Transport

Day 6:
Car transfer from Hoi An to Danang airport (45 minutes)
Flight from Danang to Ho Chi Minh City (1.5 hours)

Day 9-10

Phnom Penh

Family walking down Phnom Penh street looking at street art
Highlights:

See a hidden side of Phnom Penh with a walking tour of the capital’s backstreets

Sample traditional Khmer barbecue with dinner at Sovanna

Leaving Vietnam behind, it’s time for your introduction to Cambodia. To help you get beneath the surface of the capital, we’ve included our favourite “alternative” walking tour. It’ll take you beyond the monuments to explore residential areas brimming with daily life, into one of the oldest pagodas in the city, and along a riverfront lined with street vendors and the occasional huddle of monks. Finish off with a peep into the Royal Palace. Later, you’ll get a window into Cambodia’s dining culture, with a Khmer barbecue experience at Sovanna.

Transport

Day 9:
Car transfer from Ho Chi Minh City hotel to airport (30 minutes)
Flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Phnom Penh (1 hour)
Car transfer from Phnom Penh airport to city (1 hour)

Day 11-14

Siem Reap

Angkor Thom treasure hunt
Highlights:

Armed with a map and set of clues, explore Angkor Thom through a photography scavenger hunt

Relax by the pool, fresh coconut in hand

Zip through the canopy on a ziplining course, complete with sky bridges and abseiling!

Arrive in the famed town of Siem Reap, via a stop at the floating villages of the Tonlé Sap lake, for a day exploring the Angkor temples. We'll set up a photography scavenger hunt to keep younger ones engaged, and you'll balance the history with plenty of time in the Khmer sunshine, relaxing by the pool and exploring the markets for those final few souvenirs. Conclude your adventure with a zipline activity through the treetops, ensuring the excitement remains right up until it's time to go home.

  • There’s a great balance of beach, city and countryside
  • We’ve chosen destinations that are at their best during the July/August school break
  • Though it’s a busy trip, we’ve made sure there’s plenty of downtime for independent exploration (or chilling by the pool)

Things to consider

  • Whilst Hoi An is experiencing warm weather, Cambodia can be experiencing rain, so expect mixed weather across this route
