Day 1-4

Siem Reap

Temple face at Angkor Wat
Highlights:

Discover our favourite restaurant in Siem Reap with a farm-to-table dining menu at Lum Orng

Wander the awe-inspiring temples of Angkor, including the most famous: Angkor Wat

Join foodie experts Urban Forage for gourmet activities including gondola cruise, a self-guided dine around and a cookery class

Siem Reap is famed for temples: ancient ruins dating back to the height of the Khmer Empire, when Angkor was the largest civilisation on Earth, so it makes sense to kick off your visit here with a guided tour. You'll have lunch at the farm-to-table Lum Orng restaurant and take a gondola ride along the moat of Angkor Thom, rounding off the day deliciously, with a street food tour. One of our highlights here is the cooking class. Browse the markets for ingredients before whipping up your own Khmer delicacies in a home kitchen. Taste more classic Khmer cuisine with a self-guided dine-around, with your friendly tuk tuk driver waiting to escort you between hand-picked restaurants.

Battambang

Cambodia Battambang Soksabike Tour
Highlights:

See the exodus of millions of bats as they emerge from their cave hideaways at dusk

Cycle through rice fields to visit rice paper manufacturers or rice wine producers

Catch an acrobatic performance of Phare, The Cambodian Circus

After a last wander around the morning markets of Siem Reap, it’s onwards to Battambang: a sleepy, colonial town that’s now a haven for contemporary arts. Life feels slow and rural here. Cycle and walk through the town, passing through paddy fields and orchards, visiting a winery, seeing the production of sticky rice and fish paste, and watching millions of bats swarm across the sky at sunset. Battambang is also home to a world-class school, Phare, that trains underprivileged kids in the arts. You’ll catch one of their mind-boggling acrobatic shows – a highlight for many on their Cambodia trip.

Relax on a sunset Mekong cruise with views of floating villages, river life, and the city skyline

Taste the city’s finest food on Urban Forage’s Ultimate Street Food Tour

Skip the hotel breakfast today – and spend your last morning in Battambang with an Urban Forage guide. They'll introduce you to some of Cambodia’s classic dishes, such as Bai Sach Chruk (rice and pork), widely considered as the city’s favourite breakfast. After transferring to Phnom Penh, you’ll cruise along the Mekong River at sunset, before heading to a local NGO restaurant that supports local food programs for dinner. While you’re here, explore the city’s colonial history on a walking tour, before an evening on Urban Forage’s Ultimate Street Food Tour. You’ll taste street food, dine in local restaurants and sip cocktails. Come hungry!

Transport

Day 7:
Car transfer from Battambang to Phnom Penh (5 hours)

Day 9-11

Kep

Beachside restaurant seating under a palm tree on a quiet beach in Kep, Cambodia
Highlights:

Kick back and eat dinner at the crab shacks; caught fresh that morning

Discover why Kampot pepper has geographical protected status and is a chef favourite worldwide with a pepper farm tour

Spend your final day under the Khmer sun – perhaps by the pool, sipping a coconut

Low-key coastal Kep may have swapped its swingin’ 60s parties for sleepy sunsets and quiet streets, but it’s no less lovely for it. The order of the day here is seafood galore, and you'll start with an early morning visit to town’s crab market. That evening you'll get to taste it for yourself with a crab shack dinner. Nearby Kampot grows the best pepper in the world (trust us, it’s that good) and you’ll visit a pepper farm. Pick and taste peppercorns straight from the vine and learn about the production process, with a sunset cocktail at the Spice Bar, overlooking the pepper fields cap it off.

Transport

Day 9:
Car transfer from Phnom Penh to Kep (3 hours)

Day 11:
Car transfer from Kep to Phnom Penh airport (3 hours)

Is this trip for you?

What's great

  • You’ll be guided by local foodie experts, our partners Urban Forage
  • There’s a balance of classic sites and more unusual experiences you may not have heard of – it’s a rounded perspective on Cambodian life
  • You’ll get to see Cambodia in all its geographical diversity: palm-fringed rice paddies, crumbling temple ruins, pretty towns and tropical coast
  • All transfers are overland, so you’ll see lots more of the country than you would by flying

Things to consider

  • This itinerary includes several long car journeys which, though scenic, might not be suitable if you don’t like spending time on the road
  • Cambodian cuisine is heavily reliant on meat and fish products, so this one’s not recommended for vegetarians or vegans without significant adaptation
  • By nature, foodie experiences tend to happen in the evenings. We’ve tried to strike a balance, but if you’d like a few more evenings to yourselves then ask your consultant
