Koh Krabey

Think barefoot luxury on a tropical desert island and it’s unlikely Cambodia will spring to mind, but if anywhere’s likely to change that – it's the unspoilt gem of Koh Krabey.

Koh Krabey is one of those places that you want to keep all to yourself, lest anybody else discover its secret charms. A tiny, private island in the Koh Rong Archipelago, just fifteen minutes by speedboat from the mainland, this is the home of the luxurious Six Senses Resort, where yoga pavilions, star-gazing decks, infinity pools and glass-fronted villas stand dotted along the beaches and through the sun-dappled jungle.

A trip to Koh Krabey is, first and foremost, about recharging your batteries in indulgent style – but there are opportunities for activity for anyone who can’t sit still. Out on the sparkling seas, there’s snorkelling, kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding; on dry land, there are cooking lessons, jungle walks, and a mini organic farm to visit. If there's anywhere more idyllic to spend a few days of relaxation, gazing out over picture-perfect tropical beaches, enjoying unlimited free scoops of ice cream and getting Khmer-inspired scrubs and massages, we haven’t found it.

The second largest of Cambodia’s islands, Koh Rong is a proper tropical paradise: think white sand, luminous turquoise waters, and chilled-out, palm-shaded beach bars.

Koh Russey, also known as Bamboo Island, is so small that you can cross it in under ten minutes, and so idyllic that it feels like a cliché brought to life.
