Visit the imposing Patuxai Monument and the revered temples of Wat Si Saket and Wat Phra Keo

Take a tuk tuk to a local barbecue spot for a classic Laotian sindat meal

Your adventure starts in Vientiane. Begin with a half-day city tour, where your guide will show you the temples of Wat Si Saket and Wat Phra Keo, introducing you to Laotian religion and customs, as well as the Patuxai Monument, modeled after the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. As the evening draws in, travel by tuk tuk to the night market for some local snacks before sitting down to sindat - a local tabletop-style barbecue and a staple in the Laotian dining scene.

You'll also pay a visit to the twin-chute Tad Fane waterfall, where you'll have the opportunity to zipline and traverse suspension bridges on a morning of adventure exploration.

Is this trip for you?

What's great

  • We know kids (and some adults!) can reach their fill of history and temples, so we’ve focussed this trip on scenery, people and adventure activities
  • There are lots of learning opportunities for all the family. Get hands on in a cooking class, find out how rice is harvested and discover how to play petanque, to name a few examples
  • This trip includes classic locations like Luang Prabang, but longer stays allow time for more activities and a rich insight into Laotian life

Things to consider

  • The activities in this itinerary are suitable for children aged eight and older. If your kids are younger, let us know and we’ll adapt the trip to suit
  • Bring motion sickness tablets in case you get car sick – some of the roads are windy. It’ll all be worth it when you get to fly above Bolaven Plateau on a zipline
  • If you're travelling in a school break in July or August, note this is green season and you can expect some tropical downpours, but the waterfalls are spectacular at this time of year and the scenery is lush and fertile
  • The flight from Pakse to Luang Prabang only operates 4 times a week, so we'll suggest dates based around when it's operating
