Karnataka, Goa & Hyderabad

Sandwiched between Kerala to the south and Maharashtra to the north, with the Arabian Sea to their west and the Western Ghats running right through, Karnataka, Goa and Hyderabad gather almost everything we love about India in a little tropical pocket.

Karnataka may not be a household name, but it’s a microcosm of everything that makes India special. Bangalore is India at its most vibrantly modern and forward-looking, full of young Indians living their best lives. Mysore is the city that even city-haters love, with its massive market, leafy streets, and arguably the most impressive Royal Palace in the country. Then there’s flashy Hyderabad, across the border into Telangana, where one of India’s most atmospheric Islamic quarters lives on amid the glitz and glamour.

There’s Nagarhole, whose dense forests of teak and rosewood are home to tigers, leopards and sloth bears. There’s mountainous Chikmagalur, with its cool climate and coffee plantations. There’s Hampi, where the massive, sprawling ruins of Vijayanagar, punctuate a landscape of Flintstones-style boulders, coconut groves and paddy fields.

And there's Goa - whose reputation precedes it, of course. A Portuguese stronghold until 1961, then a hippie hangout beloved for its laid-back vibes, it has remained India’s number-one beach destination for decades. The north is where to head if you’re after eclectic markets, beach parties, and colonial ruins; the south is a much more peaceful affair, with cashew plantations, quiet beaches, and forest treks.

Beautiful beaches, city life, tiger sightings, ancient ruins and stunning natural landscapes? This is India at its finest.
