Cycling has been a really fun way to see Vietnam. It’s nice to travel by bike at a slower pace and get off the beaten track.
In Hoi An we rode simple granny bikes without gears to get out into the countryside…
…while in Hanoi we really needed mountain bikes and helmets. At one point we had to cycle down a dual carriageway among the motorbike traffic! But we survived and in fact we loved cycling in Hanoi. We rode around West Lake and it gave us a chance to observe Hanoi life on street level.
We also hopped on bikes in the Mekong Delta to visit a beautifully restored merchant house where we had lunch.
