Photo blog: A first-timer's trip to Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos •1 min read Having enjoyed one of our small group tours in Japan, Nan Merritt joined us on our Indochina Encompassed small group tour. Here are a few highlights from her travels around Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. An American in Indochina I found the Lao and Cambodian people especially warm and friendly. From an American standpoint, it's hard for me to understand. I was a senior in high school at the beginning of the Vietnam War and after what America did to these countries, I'm amazed they let us visit at all. I talked about this with our guides and drivers and they told me that they are able to put it behind them and move on. Indochina Encompassed small group tourI'm so glad that they're happy for us to visit these three beautiful countries because it was a revelation. Our tour, Indochina Encompassed, was led by Tara. There were only four people in our group and I knew the other couple. The odd man out was David who took it all in stride, so we had a delightful time together. Our drivers and in-country guides were great and with so few of us, it made for a very casual, flexible trip. Luang PrabangWe had a few days of rain so Halong Bay wasn't as glorious as it might have been, but Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh City were very impressive. Looking over my notes, Luang Prabang stood out for me as a place I would love to revisit for an extended stay. Although Ankor Wat and the adjacent temples were dazzling the quiet beauty and friendliness in Luang Prabang made a deep impression.Travel tipsI found the secret for keeping cool; hire a tuk-tuk for an hour!
