InsideAsia Tours has teamed up with Backstreet Academy, a social enterprise which promotes local artisan's workshops.

A perfect fit with our 'get beneath the surface' ethos, Backstreet Academy enables you interact with local people and learn their unique craft. Backstreet Academy was created as a peer to peer platform which empower locals to see the value of their craft. By arranging workshops and activities for travellers the artisans have a more consistent income and facilitate an authentic and unique cultural experience which connects you to local life. Here are a just a few of the activities on offer:

Hmoung Batik workshop in Luang Prabang
Working alongside a Batik teacher you will receive an introduction to the Hmong culture and with their assistance create a traditional Hmong style wax resist design on hand loomed hemp.

Oil painting in Siem Reap
In the Angkor Handicraft Association workshop in Siem Reap you with learn how to create your own oil painting from a local master. You will start by building a canvas frame to paint on, what scene you choose to recreate is up to you!

Bamboo paper art in Hue
In Phan Hai Bang's workshop, you will be taken through the unique process of making paper from bamboo and preparing the end product - through verbal and hands on demonstration.
