Day 1 - 2

Bangkok

Bangkok temples from the water
Highlights:

Take to Bangkok's waterways with a tour of the Thonburi khlongs by longtail boat

Discover Bangkok’s famous temples lit up at night

Spend a free afternoon visiting classic sights like the Grand Palace or browsing Bangkok's glitzy malls

Kick off your Thailand honeymoon in the capital city, Bangkok. We’ve adapted the classic city touring here for a more romantic take, with a longtail boat trip along the khlongs (canals) to see a quieter side of the city, as well as an evening tour, where you’ll see Bangkok’s famous Wat Arun temple lit up in the dark. For your first honeymoon dinner, we'll book you into one of our favourite riverside restaurants. During your free time you can explore at your own pace, visiting the Grand Palace if you wish, browsing Bangkok’s markets and glitzy malls for souvenirs to fill your home, or settle into your honeymoon with a traditional Thai massage.

Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai road with tuk tuks
Highlights:

Take a cookery class and master dishes that are sure to become anniversary classics for years to come

Explore the cafes, galleries and markets of Chiang Mai

Hike, bike and kayak your way through Sri Lanna National Park

Leaving Bangkok behind, journey north to Chiang Mai, a moated old city that has long since outgrown its city walls. You’ll have time to explore independently, with temples and monuments interspersed with boutiques and galleries - it's a great city to explore on foot. Grab an apron and join a cookery class at our favourite Thai cookery school, Grandma’s. Focusing on northern Thai dishes, you'll be cooking up the flavours of your honeymoon for anniversaries to come. You’ll also take a day trip into Sri Lanna National Park, hiking, biking and kayaking through farmlands, rice paddies and fruit orchards, paying a visit to the ‘sticky’ waterfalls of Bua Thong along the way.

Highlights:

Learn about the lives of elephants and their mahout carers

Try your hand at making paper from elephant dung

Stay in African-style safari tents - complete with bathrooms and full beds

A short way outside of Chiang Mai is The Bush Camp, operated by our friends Elephant Hills. An overnight stay in their tented camp (with full beds, wooden floors and en-suite facilities) includes plenty of opportunities to interact with their elephants – a national symbol of strength and luck in Thailand. You’ll watch the elephants roam their habitat, help with their food and learn about their daily lives and those of their carers too – the mahouts. You’ll also get stuck into some elephant-adjacent activities, such as using their dung to make paper. As evening draws in, head up to the camp's mountain-top viewpoint for a sundowner or two with views over the Ping River.

Krabi

Krabi beach at sunset with a longtail boat
Highlights:

Explore the coastline and beaches of Krabi

Visit a jungle spa for hot spring bathing and traditional Thai massage

Kayak through Krabi’s Hong Lagoon

Fly south to the first beach of your trip – Krabi. There’s both quieter and more popular beachfronts here, all featuring Krabi’s imposing limestone karsts as a backdrop. Visit Ao Nang for evening markets, seafood and nightly fire shows. Head up to see the sparkling Emerald Pool, before heading over to a nearby hot spring spa, where you’ll have time to bathe in the naturally fed thermal waters before a traditional Thai massage. But it's not all relaxation here. Kick up the adrenaline on an adventurous day trip, kayaking through the Hong Lagoon on Ko Hong island, complete with a picnic lunch and snorkelling over shallow corals.

Transport

Day 7

Day 11 - 14

Ko Yao Yai

Thailand coastline with longtail boat
Highlights:

Soak up the island vibes as your honeymoon draws to a close

Explore the island by bike or kayak

Departing Krabi’s coast by boat, journey across Phang Nga Bay to the island of Ko Yao Yai (or Ko Yao Noi – your consultant can pick the best one for you based on your accommodation preferences). Despite translating from Thai to ‘big long island’, Ko Yao Yai is only 30km from tip to tail. This quiet island is begging to be explored during the last few days of your honeymoon. Borrow a kayak or a bicycle from your resort and discover the island under your own steam – there’s plenty of romantic secluded spots to discover. On your last day, take a boat over to Phuket for your flight home.

Is this trip for you?

What's great

  • We’ve packed this trip with once-in-a-lifetime experiences – it's going to be a honeymoon to remember!

  • This trip showcases some of the best Thailand has to offer: cities, forest and beaches

  • These may be classic Thai destinations, but we’ll ensure you explore beyond the classic sights

  • We’ve designed this trip to suit a fairly energetic couple, but we can slow it down if you prefer

Things to consider

  • Krabi and Ko Yao Yai are best visited from late October to early April. If you’d rather travel at another time of year, we can suggest alternative beaches on the east coast

  • We’ve skipped the classic guided sightseeing because it’s relatively easy to visit sites like the Grand Palace independently. We can add this in if you’d prefer someone to show you around.

  • Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Krabi have a wide variety of properties covering various grades, but Ko Yao Yai accommodations are more limited, both for more moderate budgets and in terms of last-minute bookings.
