Day 1-4

Siem Reap

Sunset at Angkor Wat
Highlights:

Tour Angkor with both an archaeologist and a conservation expert

See the Angkor temple complex from above with a sunrise hot air balloon

Discover our favourite restaurant in Siem Reap with a farm-to-table dining menu at Lum Orng

Explore the stilted 'floating' villages of Tonlé Sap onboard a private cruiser

Most visitors to Siem Reap are here for the temples, but few get to experience them like this. Accompanied by an Angkor archaeologist, you’ll begin by touring the park in a vintage Jeep, combining the most famous spots with a few lesser-known sites that most tourists miss, before going behind the scenes at Angkor Wat itself with a conservation expert. Then, a real treat – a hot air balloon ride over the temples. You'll get a sense of the sheer scale of the Angkor complex from above. Experience farm-to-table dining with a New Mekong tasting menu at Lum Orng and take a private cruiser out among the 'forest of stilts' homes of the Tonlé Sap lake.

Transport

Day 1:
Car transfer from Siem Reap airport to hotel (20 minutes)

Day 5-6

Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh by night
Highlights:

Visit Sambor Prei Kuk – a temple far from the tourist trail

Explore Phnom Penh on a walking tour with your guide

Drink award-winning gin with a distillery tour and tasting session

Depart Siem Reap for Phnom Penh. Taking the overland route between these two popular areas of Cambodia, you'll pass through some of the lesser visited areas, including the 6th century temple of Sambor Prei Kuk. Contrast this with the skyscrapers as you arrive into Cambodia’s capital city, and get to grips with the area on a walking tour led by your guide, passing city highlights such as Wat Langka and the Royal Palace. You’ll also discover Phnom Penh’s burgeoning craft spirits scene with a visit to Mawsim; an award-winning gin distillery. Here you’ll tour the distillery and have a tasting experience from the experts who are turning invasive water hyacinths into the city’s favourite tipple.

Day 7-9

Southern Cardamom National Park

Shinta Mani Wild
Highlights:

Explore the upper reaches of a river estuary on a custom, Bensley-designed expedition boat

Go foraging with the house chef and then learn to cook what you find

Join a naturalist for a wildlife hike to learn about the local flora and fauna

At Shinta Mani Wild, it’s all about combining all-inclusive hospitality and radical design with environmental conservation. Staying in a luxurious, safari-tent style suite surrounded by one of the largest wilderness areas in Southeast Asia, you’ll spend the next few days indulging in any number of the resort’s exclusive activities. Depending on your preferences, you might head out on patrol with a wildlife ranger, go crab-fishing and grill your catch on the barbecue, or join the chef foraging to learn about the fruits and fungi of the forest. In your downtime, make the most of the traditional Khmer healing rituals and rejuvenating treatments at the Boulder Spa.

Transport

Day 7:
Car transfer from Phnom Penh to Southern Cardamom National Park (3 hours)

Day 10-13

Song Saa Private Island

Song Saa Private Island
Highlights:

Kick back with a sundowner on your private veranda overlooking the ocean

Take advantage of the many included activities at Song Saa, such as snorkelling, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding

Join an island-hopping excursion and discover the beautiful and undisturbed habitats of the surrounding area

You’ve seen the city, the countryside and the rainforest – all that remains on your Cambodia trip is to soak up the tropical surroundings of Cambodia’s islands. Song Saa is a tiny, private island in the Gulf of Thailand, completely uninhabited except for the beautiful and exclusive Song Saa resort. The word “paradise” is overused, but this is it: azure seas, pristine beaches, and gloriously luxurious thatch-roofed villas built with natural materials. With three days here, you’ll have ample time to take sunset cruises, explore rainforest trails, go stand-up paddleboarding or arrange scuba diving trips to the coral reefs. The only downside is you’ll have to go home at the end.

  • This trip includes some of the very best luxury experiences and properties available in Cambodia
  • All transfers are overland, so you’ll see much more of the country than you would on domestic flights
  • The itinerary moves at a leisurely pace, so it’s perfect for those who like to take their time
  • You’ll see all of Cambodia’s beautiful rural landscapes: palm-fringed rice paddies, vine-entangled temples, charming villages and towns, and tropical coastline and islands

Things to consider

  • It’s not a great idea to stay on the beach during monsoon season (May to October)
