Day 1 - 2

Bangkok

Bangkok longtail boat cruise
Highlights:

See the highlights of Bangkok with visits to the Grand Palace and Wat Arun

Explore Bangkok’s khlongs (canals) on a longtail boat cruise

Take your first bites of Thai cuisine on a street food tour

With 24 hours to explore Thailand’s capital Bangkok, we’ve put together our idea of a perfect day, making sure you don’t miss out on the city's flagship sights like the Grand Palace, built in 1782 when Bangkok was named as the capital. We think it's equally important to step away from the crowds – a boat trip along the khlongs (canals) to see the city’s Thonburi district from the water is one of our favourite ways to do that. Stay up late if you can – not just to beat jetlag, but for our tasty evening street food tour. We recommend the smoky charred Guay Tiew Kua Gai noodles.

Accommodation
Transport

Day 1
Car transfer Bangkok Airport to hotel (1 hour)

Day 3 - 4

Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai Songthaews
Highlights:

Discover everything from herbal medicine to hand-stitched Hmong quilts on a market tour

Taste how northern style dishes differs from Bangkok with a cookery class at our favourite school

Peel back layers of Chiang Mai history on a city tour with an expert guide

A flight from Bangkok takes you to Chiang Mai, Thailand’s northern hub of culture and arts. On a half day city tour, you'll uncover local coffee houses, take to the water on a river cruise and zip across the city to Wat Phra Singh temple on a samlor tricycle. Your guide will also introduce you to Wororot Market, a local favourite that will sell you everything from traditional handicrafts made by minority communities to your daily vegetables. It is, however, most famous for the street food stalls. Taste your first northern Thai snacks here, before heading over to one of our favourite cookery schools in Thailand. You'll wow your friends back home with your take on tom ka kai (coconut chicken soup).

Khao Sok National Park

Cheow Lan Lake View
Highlights:

Explore the limestone caves and karst pinnacles of Cheow Lan by boat or kayak

Sit back and listen to the sounds of the jungle from your balcony

Head out on a (short!) hike into your jungle surroundings

Nature takes centre stage in Khao Sok National Park. There's plenty of Thai wildlife here, as you’ll discover – simply sit on the balcony of your floating villa or jungle treehouse and listen to the hoots of the gibbons and the calls of wild elephants. One of our favourite things to do is to take to the Cheow Lan Lake in a kayak, and gently paddle past limestone karst peaks, topped with tropical jungle.

Transport

Day 5
Car transfer from Chiang Mai Hotel to airport (20 minutes)
Flight from Chiang Mai to Surat Thani (2 hours)
Car transfer from Surat Thani airport to Khao Sok hotel (approx. 2 hours, possibly with the last leg by boat depending on hotel location)

Day 7 - 10

Krabi

Krabi beachfront with longtail boats
Highlights:

Cruise the Hong islands off the Krabi coast in a longtail boat

Stay at a beach that suits your style, with both quiet and popular beachfronts along Krabi’s coast

Fill your suitcase with souvenirs from the night markets

We'll suggest a Krabi beach stay to suit you, from quiet boutique resorts to hotels right in the heart of town. Krabi’s 150 km of coastline is made up of sandy beaches, mangrove forests and limestone cliffs, so there's plenty of room to explore. On your last day in Thailand, take a longtail boat around the Hong island group in the National Marine Park, stopping off to snorkel and explore islands.

Is this trip for you?

What's great

  • You'll visit four contrasting areas of Thailand, covering cities, a National Park and beaches
  • Includes a great mix of cultural, historical and scenic experiences guided by local experts
  • These may be classic Thai destinations, but we’ll ensure you explore beyond the classic sights
  • We’ve designed this trip to suit a wide range of interests, but we can tailor it to focus on a specific angle if you prefer

Things to consider

  • Krabi is best visited from late October to early April. If you’d rather travel at another time of year, we can suggest alternative beaches on the east coast
  • The trip is fast paced, aiming to cover some ground rather than staying somewhere and exploring more in-depth
  • Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Krabi have a wide variety of properties covering various grades, but Khao Sok National Park accommodation is on the more basic side.
