Inside Asia Tours: Vietnam, Cambodia & Laos

Hiking through Phnom Kulen

Trek to the birthplace of the Khmer Empire through untouched Cambodian jungle.

Phnom Kulen is a mountain range and national park near Siem Reap, where Jayavarman II had himself declared the King of Kings in the 9th century - an act that inaugurated the Khmer Empire, Southeast Asia's greatest historical civilisation.

Setting off into the jungle, you'll walk through beautiful scenery, passing friendly local villages on your way to an impressive sandstone plateau that stands above this otherwise flat area. On arrival at the plateau, try to spot ancient stone carvings in the riverbed and explore the area's several hidden pagodas. The region is known for its beautiful waterfalls and you'll have a chance to take a dip before heading back to town before sunset.
