Ninh Binh sampan
Known as 'Dry Halong Bay', the breath-taking scenery of Ninh Binh is best appreciated from amongst the lily and lotus on the calm waters of the river.
Ninh Binh offers one of the most stunning landscapes of Vietnam, with flat flood plains carpeted with rice paddies surrounded by sheer-sided limestone mountains.
These beautiful karst landscapes have been carved out by the action of water over countless millenia, and the area is criss-crossed still by idyllic rivers that meander between the limestone outcrops. A wonderfully relaxing way to experience this region is to take a gentle sampan ride through the glorious scenery, punted along through the rice paddies and flooded fields of lotus and waterlily.
The rivers of the Ninh Binh region have eroded caves through many of the limestone peaks, and your journey will take you through these atmospheric caverns, lit only by a hand torch. There are a number of locations where a sampan ride is possible - some of which are more developed and popular than others. Your guide will select the best option based on the day and conditions.
