Halong Bay cruises

UNESCO World Heritage designated Halong Bay, scenic highlight of northern Vietnam, is a fabulous location for taking to the water.

Halong Bay, a World Heritage Site and scenic highlight of northern Vietnam, is a fabulous location for taking to the water. Sail serenely between the limestone towers scattered throughout the bay, stopping at floating fishing villages, discovering remote beaches, or exploring beautiful caves.

The most popular way to explore the bay is on an overnight cruise on one of the many traditional-style junks that ply the waters, but day-boats or extended two-night options are also possible. Since 2012 the government has ordered that all boats on the bay must be painted white, so at first glance there may not seem to be much variety - but in fact there is a tremendous selection of boats available in different sizes and styles, operating a variety of different itineraries.

The majority of boats are traditional Chinese-style junks, ranging from romantic private vessels to large boats with 20 cabins or more, and from comfortable mid-range quality to the height of luxury. The more expensive vessels boast larger cabins, private balconies, and more high-end en suite bathrooms. If you'd prefer a different style of boat, you can also take to the waters in a modern luxury vessel like the Au Co, or a colonial-style paddle steamer like the Emeraude.
