Mekong River cruising in northern Laos

Mekong River cruising in northern Laos

Rugged, jungle-covered mountains tower over the Mekong as it carves south from the Thai border toward Luang Prabang.

The two-day cruise connecting Luang Prabang and the Thai border at Huay Xai leads you through some of Southeast Asia's finest and most dramatic scenery. The open-sided long-tailed boat allows you to experience this lovely part of northern Laos as you relax on deck, passing isolated villages en route to the town of Pakbeng.

A halfway point between Huay Xai and Luang Prabang, the small town of Pakbeng is lined with wooden houses along a steep hillside, and provides simple but comfortable overnight accommodation. This cruise is a wonderful introduction to the laid-back pace of life in Laos, and as you watch the sun set over the Mekong you're sure to fall in love with this beautiful country.
