Storms heading for eastern and northern Japan

Torrential rain and thunder storms are expected to hit eastern and northern regions of Japan tonight, the country's meteorological agency has warned.

A low pressure system developed on a rain front is due to approach the Kanto region today (October 24th), reports the Kyodo news agency.

Up to 180 mm of rain is forecast to fall on the Pacific side of Hokkaido, with 120 mm in the Tokai region and 100 mm in the regions of Kanto-Koshin, Tohoklu and south Kinki.

The Japan Meteorological Agency exists to prevent and mitigate natural disasters, promote the safety of the country's transport infrastructure and improve public welfare.

According to the BBC Weather Centre, Tokyo will see winds of up to 20 mph today, with moderate visibility and a maximum temperature of 24 degrees celsius.

Sunny intervals will dominate the weather scene over the weekend, with a maximum temperature of 23 degrees on Saturday and 24 degrees on Sunday.
