Best of Cambodia

8 Nights: from US$1547 per person (twin share) Trip Code: BOC0001

Many visitors to Cambodia see little of local life beyond the grand temples of Angkor, but for those with a little more time and an interest in getting beneath the surface, our Best of Cambodia itinerary presents the perfect introduction to the country. Read more >

During the colonial era, before the dark days of the Khmer Rouge, Phnom Penh was known as the Pearl of the Orient. Located at the confluence of the mighty Mekong and the Tonle Sap rivers, Cambodia's capital is slowly regaining some of its former lustre, and makes the ideal starting point for your journey.

To begin your exploration you could get a taste of the highlights to come at the excellent National Museum - or perhaps you might like to learn more about the Khmer Rouge regime at the infamous Killing Fields.

Heading northwest from the city you will drive on through bucolic scenes of rural Cambodian life to the town of Battambang, stopping en route at Oudong, a former capital. The strategic location of Battambang, close to the Thai border and Tonle Sap Lake, has proved critical throughout its history, and you'll find lingering influences of French and Thai rule still evident today. Explore the colonial architecture and outlying temples with your local guide, before continuing to your final destination: Siem Reap.

The ancient and spectacular temples of Angkor are one of Asia's true highlights, and three full days here will enable you to take your time, giving you the chance to explore some of the many lesser-known temples in addition to the well-known and popular options. Siem Reap itself provides a delightfully relaxing base for your adventures, making this a perfect conclusion to a fascinating trip.
