Insider Experience: A Royal Encounter and Traditional Arts

Explore Prince Nithakhong' private collection of arts and items from the Old Court of Luang Prabang.

Although Laos is now a Democratic Republic, members of the former royal family still reside in Luang Prabang. For an incredible insight into the history and culture of the nation, we give you the opportunity to meet with Prince Nithakhong Somsanith at his home.

Although having spent a great deal of his life living, studying and working abroad, Prince Nith has held on to his childhood memories and he has deep passion for Lao folk arts. He is a self-taught folk artist and feels it is a special gift that has been passed on to him from many generations.

Since his return to Laos, Prince Nith devotes his time his time predominantly to traditional arts and education programs for the community with the mission to preserve, promote the cultural and artistic heritage of Laos. He is known for his work in the art of gold thread embroidery of the royal Lao palace and practices wood carving and painting.

The Prince's residence also houses a great collection of arts and items from the Old Court of Luang Prabang and you will have the opportunity to speak with the Prince about his passion, his life and the Laos of today. A truly unique encounter.
