Cambodian shadow puppetry

Cambodian shadow puppetry

The Cambodian Living Arts organisation is dedicated to preserving traditional performing arts, including music, dance and shadow puppetry.

With centres in both Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, there are performances of one art form or another every day of the week, with the exception of Sunday.

The Sbeak Thom performance tells a Cambodian rendition of the Hindu Ramayana legends through shadow puppetry, using the traditional large cow-hide puppets. Other performances include both classical and folk dance, as well as storytelling and musical renditions using ancient instruments as depicted on the murals and bas-relief of the Angkorian temples.
