Our team at InsideAsia Tours
The sun never sets on the InsideAsia Tours team (well, maybe on Sundays) and here you can meet the people behind our Southeast Asian tours and holidays.
We have a wide range of backgrounds and interests, but you can be sure that the one thing that ties us all together is a love of travel, foreign cultures and a passionate desire to share that with other people.
From the accounts department, through the travel consultant teams to the tour leaders and guides on the ground, you can rest assured that everything we do is to make sure you have the best possible experience in Asia.
John first arrived in Japan at the age of 10, when his father was posted to Sasebo near Nagasaki with the US navy. Since then, John has spent a total of seven years living in Nagasaki, Kanagawa, Ibaraki and Fukui Prefectures.
Over the years, John had experienced Japan as a child, as a student of Japanese, and as an English teacher. Seeing Japan from such different perspectives has given John a uniquely broad knowledge of the country and its people, which he now uses to create amazing itineraries for our customers in the USA.
When John first arrived in Japan at the age of 10, he was blown away by how exotic everything was. Since everywhere was safe to explore, he had plenty of chances to develop his sense of adventure - a quality that he has continued to develop as an adult. At the time his interest in Japanese culture was limited to Nintendo games and Dragon Ball Z, but this soon changed as he started learning the Japanese language and took up kendo and aikido - two Japanese martial arts focused on swordplay. Later he would develop his interest in anime, which he sees as a fascinating lens into Japanese society - if you can cut through the chaff, that is!
John's favourite place in Japan is Hokkaido - the northernmost of Japan's four main islands. It's not just the great food, the vast scenic beauty - there's just something about the vibe of the place that you can't put your finger on. Of everywhere in Hokkaido, John's favourite spot is the tiny island of Rebun, where he loves hiking in the countryside amongst the alpine plants and flowers.
Now that he is back in the US of A, John turns his free time to his hobbies of photography, writing and anything to do with the outdoors - hiking, mountaineering, climbing, backpacking, camping, biking... you get the idea.
