Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda Festival

Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda Festival

The Phaung Daw Oo Festival offers a fantastic introduction to the cultural and scenic delights of Shan State.

Amongst the local pagoda festivals, the celebration held at Inle Lake each October is the arguably the most famous and distinctive. During the 18 days of the Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda Festival, images of the Buddha usually kept at the eponymous pagoda on the southern end of the lake are transported around Inle by boat. They return to their shrine on the final day, accompanied by leg-rowing races, processions and much excitement.
