Boating to Sagar

Boating to Sagar

Sagar, the far southern region of Inle Lake, is a very special destination and one that very few visitors have the chance to witness.

The boat journey down the length of Inle Lake to Sagar is brimming with fabulous views and provides a chance to see many unique species of bird, both indigenous and migratory. One of the highlights of a visit to Sagar is sure to be the 108 "sunken" stupas dating from the 16-17th centuries, which spend a few months of every year partially submerged beneath the water.

You will also visit some of the local villages in the area, including Thaya Gone - home to Pa-O, Shan and Inthar people and known for its production of local rice wine. Another stop will be made in Sae Khaung to see the crafting of oil and water pots and the natural, underground kilns used by the villagers.
