Sailing the Andaman Sea

9 Nights: from US$5050 per person (twin share) Trip Code: SAS

Myanmar (Burma) is known for its monumental pagodas, colonial legacy, and turbulent modern history – but look beyond all this and you'll find a land of dazzling natural beauty that's only just beginning to be discovered. Read more >

Your sailing adventure is bookended by stays in Yangon, Myanmar's former capital city, providing the perfect introduction to the country's culture and history. Wander barefoot beneath the glimmering golden spire of Shwedagon Pagoda, stop for high tea at the iconic Strand Hotel, and enjoy Southeast Asia's most complete collection of colonial buildings before you leave the crowds behind and jet south.

After a night in the border town of Kawthaung, at the very southern tip of Myanmar, you'll board your shared, fully crewed sailing vessel to begin six days cruising amongst the islands of the Andaman Sea. Years of isolation from the outside world have left these islands virtually untouched, most of them completely undeveloped and pristine. Ranging from tiny islets to great tracts of land larger than Singapore, each invariably covered in a thick blanket of tropical jungle, these islands see a bare handful of visitors each year - which means you'll often see no-one but the occasional fisherman in a dugout canoe.

As you hop from beach to beach or sail across uninterrupted blue waters, you'll have ample opportunities to disembark and explore all the natural wonders the region has to offer. Keep watch for civet cats, monitor lizards and mouse deer eyeing you from the thicket; kayak through the world's oldest mangrove forests; spot frigate birds, green imperial pigeons and emerald doves soaring from the treetops. Snorkel for reef fish, dive the thrilling Burma Banks, feast on freshly caught barracuda, mahi mahi and giant trevally - or try your luck and cast out for marlin and sailfish.

And when you're not enjoying the glorious biodiversity - relax onboard your classic wooden-hulled sailing yacht, surrounded by the utmost in comfort and luxury, or take a day trip to visit the Moken: Myanmar's indigenous sea nomads. This truly is the perfect way to discover paradise.
