Fully Tailored Journey

Chindwin River Explorer

12 Nights: from US$4615 per person (twin share) Trip Code: CHE0001

Bookended by stays in the colonial cities of Mandalay and Yangon, this cruise whisks you away from the tourist trail and deep into northern Myanmar (Burma), where the towns and villages are rich with the stories of history. Read more >

The trip begins in Mandalay, a city whose name conjures images of colonial splendour and the exotic East. Though the days of the British Raj are thankfully but a distant memory, it is not difficult to imagine yourself cast back in time as you climb to the summit of Mandalay Hill to watch the sun set over the Irrawaddy.

After a couple of days to find your feet, exploring the former capitals of Amarapura, Sagaing and Ava and visiting some of Mandalay's fascinating craft workshops, you will embark on your Chindwin River Cruise, heading northwards into regions of Myanmar that remain virtually untouched by modern tourism. Your craft, the RV Kalay Pandaw, is a beautiful riverboat with a gorgeous brass and teak finish, attentive staff, comfortable cabins and a deck on which to relax with cocktail in hand as the scenery of northern Myanmar drifts lazily past.

Throughout your journey, you will disembark to explore the towns and villages that lie on the banks of the river, learning about the fascinating history of an area rarely seen by outsiders. Finally, you will leave your vessel in Homalin and fly south for two nights in the city of Yangon, where the stunning Shwedagon Pagoda provides a dazzling finale to your trip.
