Yangon's Circular Train

There is no better way to experience Yangon life than a ride on the city's commuter train.

Built by the British more than 60 years ago, Yangon's charmingly decrepit Circle Line Train is a ride through history. Connecting the rural suburbs and townships of Yangon, the trains, some even as old as the line itself, circle the city in a 28 mile loop taking just over three hours to complete the circuit.

While spending the whole three hours on board may be a little too much for some (and definitely for your bottom on the hard seats) taking a shorter version for a colourful ride through Yangon's neighbourhoods lets you experience the true essence of local life in Burma's old capital, giving you a window into the daily routine of the Burmese people away from the commercial centre of the country.
