Yangon colonial heritage walk

Yangon colonial heritage walk

Stroll through downtown Yangon with a knowledgeable local guide, exploring the architectural remnants of the British colonial era.

Yangon boasts some of the Southeast Asia's best remaining examples of colonial architecture, left largely untouched during the post-war period of isolation. Although now in various states of disrepair, the once grand edifices of the empire can still be explored, scattered throughout modern Yangon.

Many of these buildings are on the Yangon City Heritage List, offering them some protection from the development that is proceeding apace in the city. This trust, chaired by Dr Thant Myint-U, grandson of former UN Secretary General U Thant, is instrumental in the process of protecting and preserving these buildings. The organisation also provides insightful walking tours to visitors to the city.
