Inside Vietnam: Cambodia Laos

Kong Lor Cave

Delve deep into the jungle to Kong Lor, an immense cave network navigable by underground river. The remote jungle setting makes this an especially dramatic destination, well worth the journey through this little-visited corner of Laos.

“Kong Lor gives the Phong Nha caves just over the border in Vietnam a real run for their money - spectacular!”

Tom Weston. Director

Located in central Laos, within the Phou Hin Poun NPA (National Protected Area) are the spectacular Kong Lor Caves. Set amongst a landscape of limestone karsts, forests and rice paddies, this is a remote and beautiful diversion from the more popular tourist destinations. At a length of 7.5 km Kong Lor is one of the world's longest navigable caves, and is still used by local villagers as an access route to the region beyond. A visit here includes a breathtaking cruise along an underground section of the Hin Boun River. The river flows all year and reveals vast formations of stalactites and stalagmites, which can be explored partly on foot whilst inside the cave. In places the cave reveals great chambers up to 90m wide and 100m high.
