Encroached upon by Thailand in the west and Vietnam in the east, you'd be forgiven for not realising that Cambodia had a coastline. But indeed it does – and Koh Rong is one of its jewels.
Koh Rong lies just off the coast of Sihanoukville and offers an as-yet-undeveloped oasis for travellers in search of some tropical down-time. There is no airport, so the island is reached by 45 minute boat trip from the mainland. In addition to its lovely, sweeping beaches and inland jungle, Koh Rong is a great place to partake in a bit of diving, snorkelling or kayaking, and is so photogenic that a production company has set up permanent camp at Soksan Beach. Once you've finished in the water, there are also ample trekking, mountain biking, and motorbiking opportunities to keep you busy.
Anyone in search of peace and quiet should avoid Koh Touch, a stretch of beach with a reputation as a party spot, and head for any of the other peaceful beaches on the island. Thanks to its stunning views and relative isolation, Koh Rong isn't going to stay a secret for long - so visit soon before everyone else finds out!
