Located in Thma Puok District in northwest Cambodia is the remote commune of Banteay Chhmar, made up of 14 villages.
The highlight of a visit to this area is the large temple complex of Banteay Chhmar which was constructed by Jayavarman VII and is one of the most impressive remote temple cities beyond the Angkor area. The nearest village to the temple is part of a worthwhile community-based tourism (CBT) scheme which provides a number of community based activities and runs a homestay programme.
