Discover the hidden temples of Cambodia, with InsideAsia Tours
An increasingly popular, yet still largely untouched, tourist destination, Cambodia is synonymous with mysterious ancient traditions and a wealth of cultural treasures, just waiting to be discovered.
One of these cultural treasures is the spectacular temple of Preah Vihear, which has recently been declared safe for travel by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) following an ongoing border dispute between Cambodia and Thailand that lasted for more than 100 years.
Situated on top of Pey Tadi, a 525-metre cliff in the Dangrek Mountains between Cambodia and Thailand, visitors are now able to explore the ancient Hindu shrine, considered to be one of the most exciting historic sites of Cambodia's heartlands.
Following the FCO's declaration, InsideVietnam Tours has launched a trip that will encompass the temple of Preah Vihear, and allows visitors to discover the ethereal site, dedicated to the third Hindu god, Shiva.
Tom Weston, Sales Director for InsideVietnam Tours says:
"We are thrilled to be able to offer visitors the chance to experience Preah Vihear as part of the 'Hidden Temples' trip, now that the FCO has declared it safe. It is a little known site outside of South East Asia, but offers so much in terms of compelling history, impressive architecture, breath-taking location and the fact is relatively untouched. Preah Vihear, combined with the cultural experiences and home stays on this trip, offers so many reasons to travel beyond Angkor and get beneath the surface of this beautiful country."
Declared Cambodia's second UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008, the temple is known for its exceptional quality of construction and excellent state of preservation, which allows guests to picture what life was like when the building was created, during the first half of the 11th century AD.
Additionally, the temple is perched on the edge of a plateau, which offers visitors unparalleled views of the surrounding plains of Thailand and Cambodia.
The ?Hidden Temples of Cambodia' tour provides the chance to visit further 'lost' cities and hidden temples, too, unravelling the complex and intriguing history of the country.
En route, enjoy a homestay in the forgotten city of Banteay Chhmar, make the most of a sunset cruise with cocktails on the moat of Angkor Thom, and marvel at the Phare Circus (complete with music, theatre, dance, acrobatics, juggling, aerial arts and contortion) in Siem Reap.
Plus, admire the pre-Angkorian ruins of Sambor Prei Kuk (built during the Chenla Kingdom in the 6th century AD), watch the sun rise over the majestic temple of Angkor Wat, discover Phnom Penh with an expert guide and explore the countryside surrounding Siem Reap, visiting rice paddies, woodland and villages by ox-cart and boat.
The Hidden Temples of Cambodia, a fully-tailored journey, costs from £1,740 pp (two sharing), and includes 10 nights' B&B accommodation, private transfers between destinations, plus luggage handling and the services of an expert local guide. International flights extra.
