Inside Vietnam: Cambodia Laos

Cycling tour of Luang Prabang

Explore the historical town of Luang Prabang by bike.

Cycling is a fun and easy way to explore a city under your own steam, allowing you to get around town easily without having to get in and out of a car.

The tour will begin with a visit to Wat Visoun to see the famous watermelon-shaped stupa, then head to the former Royal Palace, now the National Museum. The Royal Palace was built in 1904 during the French colonial era for King Sisavang Vong and his family, and has been preserved as a museum for visitors to wander around. From here, the tour continues to Wat Mai Temple, known for its five-tiered roof and golden bas-reliefs.

After admiring Wat Mai you'll ride along the Nam Khan River to visit Wat Xieng Thong, the most revered temple in Luang Prabang, located at the end of the peninsula. From here you'll continue your exploration, leaving town with a ride out to the Phosy Market, where you can join the locals and support vendors by buying fresh produce or fruit. Your guide will be here to encourage you to taste some of the exotic flavours, helping to identify new items not found in your grocery store back home!

After visiting the market you'll continue on to Ock Pop Tok, a non-profit organisation that seeks to preserve traditional weaving techniques, giving demonstrations and allowing visitors to have a go themselves.

Finally you'll ride alongside the Mekong and back in to town for your final stop at the Traditional Arts & Ethnology Centre, dedicated to exploring the rich diversity of Laos' ethnic minorities.
