Traditional minority dance in Mai Chau

Traditional minority dance in Mai Chau

The Hmong and Thai ethnic groups who reside in the Mai Chau region have a rich tradition of dance, often performed at festivals and celebrations.

The Thai minority village of Pon Coong, a short walk from Mai Chau town, hosts a number of homestays offering accommodation and meals. Our favourite is the house of the Hien family, who provide a great evening dinner spread, followed by a performance of a selection of traditional dances from the different minority groups who reside in the Mai Chau region. Performers all come from the local villages, so in addition to being an enjoyable experience you can be assured that this contributes directly to the local community.
