Inside Vietnam: Cambodia Laos

Nam Nern night safari

The Nam Nern night safari is a boat-based tour into the heart of the Nam Et-Phou Louey National Protected Area.

Though it's called the Nam Nern night safari, this is actually a 24-hour experience, taking you deep into the jungle of the national park. After being picked up from your hotel by a guide, you'll travel by private car to Ban Son Koua Village - the starting point of the tour. You'll then travel by boat on the Nam Nern River to your ecolodge, where you'll arrive in time for lunch and have the afternoon to relax.

This evening you'll head out by boat through the forest and have dinner by the camp fire, before returning by moonlight. During the nighttime portion of the trip, your boats' engines will be switched off and your guides will search for wildlife using torches. You'll spend the night back at the ecolodge, listening to the sounds of the jungle.

The following morning, your guide will take you for a walk through the forest, introducing you to some of the local plants and their medicinal uses. Afterwards, you'll board your boat once more and head back to your starting point.

This is a fantastic chance to spot some of Laos's endangered wildlife, and your fee for the experience goes toward wildlife conservation and providing sustainable employment for the local residents.
