Kayaking on Inle Lake
If you like to paddle and see life from water-level you'll love our Inle Lake kayaking experience. Join the locals out on the water!
Most visitors to Inle will explore on a motorised longtail boat, but for a more serene experience why not explore the fascinating floating farms and stilt villages under your own steam? Many of the locals in the back channels aren't yet accustomed to seeing foreigners, let alone modern neon-coloured kayaks, so you can be certain of a smile and a wave as you drift along.
Exploring the southern end of the lake you will visit the small fishing village of Nampan. Paddle alongside the traditional leg-rowing fishermen and marvel at their balance and focus. While balancing on one foot, the fisherman wraps an oar around his other foot to steer while casting a net with his free hands. This traditional fishing technique has been passed down through generations and requires years of practice to master.
Arriving at Mine Pyo, you will stop at a local Inthar house for traditional Shan tea and some local snacks. Enjoy local soy products like crackers and fried tofu as well as locally made Shan doughnuts. Take a moment to enjoy the view before finishing the final leg and paddling to Se Sone village.
