Inside Burma Tours

Spectacular view from Mt Popa

Fifty kilometers southeast of Bagan, Mount Popa is a solitary peak crowned by golden stupas.

Mount Popa, an important pilgrimage destination for the Burmese people, is a hilltop shrine dedicated to the worship of the 37 nats - the ancient Burmese animist spirits.

The summit is accessed by 777 steps, lined with many golden stupas along the way - evidence of the mountain's spiritual importance. The climb is well worth it for the spectacular view over the Myingyan Plain from the top of the volcanic peak. Just watch out for some of the world's naughtiest monkeys when you get there!
