Inside Burma Tours

Pyin Oo Lwin Day Trip

Visit the lush botanical gardens of colonial Burma's summer capital.

Once the favoured summer haunt of British officers looking to escape the summer heat in the hills, there are plenty of remnants of the colonial era left over in this sleepy town. Now home to a military training camp, if heading up to Pyin Oo Lwin for the day you could be forgiven for thinking you're travelling back in time. Take a horse & cart to see the colonial buildings and summer houses before culminating with the botanical gardens. Established by Sir Harcourt Butler (the former governor of Burma)  with the help of Lady Cuffe (a botanist from Kew gardens) the tropical gardens are fascinating, playing host to 178 species of orchid.
