The Myeik (Mergui) Archipelago is a vast area of the Andaman Sea studded with more than 800 pristine islands – of which Macleod Island is just one. The lack of development in the region has enabled an amazing diversity of flora and fauna to flourish, both above and below the waves.
“This remote tropical paradise has more life under the water than above it!”
Charlotte Bower, Travel Consultant
Thanks to its biological diversity, the Myeik Archipelago is famed for the quality of the diving and snorkeling - not to mention its remote and unspoiled beaches, which really do deliver a true "Robinson Crusoe" experience.
One of the few resorts permitted on the Myeik Archipelago is the Andaman, located on Macleod Island, some 40 nautical miles from Kawthaung on the far southern tip of Myanmar. The Andaman is the only manmade construction on the island, and warns its visitors to expect no clubs, shops, restaurants and five-star facilities here. What they can expect instead are utterly pristine beaches, dense jungle ripe for exploration, guided kayaking trips through caves and mangroves, a plethora of rare birds and animals, and truly spectacular dive sites.
The Myeik Archipelago is what Phuket and the other Thai islands were like decades ago, before the advent of mass tourism, giant beach parties and boatloads of drunk tourists. Macleod Island, however, promises to remain a paradise for years to come.
