Ko Yao Yai

Ko Yao Yai, or "Big Long Island" in Thai, is only 30km from tip to tip despite its ideas of grandeur, and sits in the middle of Phang Nga Bay roughly halfway between Phuket and Krabi.

This long, narrow island is one of Thailand’s quietest beach destination offerings, avoiding the crowds of partiers that some of its more famous siblings are subject thanks to its more reserved majority Thai Muslim population. With only a handful of hotels and resorts scattered along the coastline it’s the ideal getaway for those looking for a quiet break in the sun. Away from its sandy shores, the island is defined by its rubber plantations, mangrove forests, coconut groves and a handful of fishing villages and naturally there is no shortage of beaches and coves to discover and explore.
